This is the stage I testing at the SSB and is aimed at perceiving the picture shown to you and form a story around it...
The Test
There will be a picture shown to candidates (generally a blurred one) and they are required to buils a story on that picture. It is not required to describe the picture but to form a story which describes the situation in the picture, what led to the situation and what is the possible outcome.
The picture must be described in the form of a story freely expressing your thoughts and ideas without any beauty of expression. After forming the individual story, it is then followed by a Group discussion.
Test Format
The candidates will be provided with a sheet with follwing heads :
- Title
- A box where you need to mention gender, age and mood of characters perceived in the picture
- Story
Note: This is just a mock sheet just to provide an idea of the format.
You also need to provide your details in the necessary spaces in the actual sheet describing ur Batch No., Chest No. etc.
What to Do :
At first, as the picture is shown, the numbers of characters you could see in the picture must be noted in the box in the sheet with the following format :
- Write "M" if its a male, "F" for a female and "P" if the gender cannot be recognised
- The age of the person
- The mood of the character i.e "+" for positive, "-" for negative mood, and "o" for a neutral mood.
An Illustration
An illustration is shown about the picture below and the way in which the box is to be filled acooring to the picture. In the picture below a total of three characters is seen. So in the box there will be three sets of above fields.
Suppose the person in the left is a male of 40 years of age and is in a positive mood. Then, the person in the middle is a male of age 30 years in neutral mood. Also, lets assume the gender of the right character is not assumed but is sumwhere in his teenage with a neutral mood, this is how it is described in the box:
The picture is shown for 30 seconds and after that a time period of 4 minutes is given to write the story. "BE, CAREFUL THAT YOU NEED TO WRITE A STORY THAT IS BEST DSCRIBED BY THAT PICTURE AND NOT DESCRIBE THE PICTURE".
After writing the story, now the candidates are taken in a group of about 15 candidates to have a group discussion. At first, it is asked by each candidate to introduce himself/herself to the group briefly and then follwed by narrating your story to the group.....
Then comes the funal battle "A GROUP DISCUSSION" which is not less than a battle field. You must participate in the GD actively both in terms of delivering ur ideas and also listening too. Remember "The One Who Speaks A Lot May Not Be Selected, But The One Who Talks Sense Is Always Selected."
After the Stage 1 testing, a fraction of the total candidates is sent back the same day and the lucky ones who clear the Stage 1 remain at the Selection Board for the remaining days.
